Spring is in the air

Yes, Spring is in the air, and that means a time for new beginnings. For us, we're marking the occasion by re-launching our newsletter. We've sent out editions sporadically over the years, but this issue marks our commitment to bring you the best, most relevant and useful content about air and water filtration on a monthly basis.

Many of you know me as "The Filter Queen" because I take the job of helping our customers look after the air they breathe and the water they drink very seriously. You deserve the best, and I'm proud to offer some the finest products, service and advice in the industry.

Every month, I'll be spotlighting important issues relating to air and water filters: valuable money saving tips, factual articles, important insights from our partners, and insightful stories from our customers. If you've got something to share, please drop me a line at filterqueen@filtersolution.com or call me at 866-385-2021.

In this inaugural issue, I want to focus on pollen. With so many beautiful flowers in bloom this month this is easily one of my favorite times of the year. It is also, however, the beginning of allergy season. For those of you who suffer from allergies, you need to make sure that the air circulating in your home is as clean, fresh, and safe for you to breathe as possible.

That's where air filters can help a lot. Most air filters are the panel type that fit in the intake vent (aka the return grille) of your a/c system, trapping dust, dander, pollen and other allergens that are in the air and then preventing them from re-circulating. A good quality filter that filters down to 0.3 micron can trap many allergens. Because pollen is an extremely small particle, it is crucial to have a reliable, high-quality air filter in place that can eliminate most of it from your air supply. Some of the most effective whole-house filtration systems in the fight against pollen are those that use a true HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) rated cartridge, usually composed of randomly arranged fiberglass fibers with tiny diameters, which can trap particles three different ways. The more affordable portable HEPA air cleaners can be moved from room to room.

We have an excellent selection of both genuine and compatible replacement filters for the top brands, including Duracraft, Honeywell, Kenmore, and Trion. Remember that filters don't last forever. If it's been some time since you last replaced your filter, or you live in a location known for high pollen counts (check www.pollen.com for forecasts), it may be time to change your filter out.

Tip from the Filter Queen

Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) has long been used to inactivate microbial aerosols, mostly in the occupied spaces of medical facilities. Studies have shown that UVGI lights installed in HVAC systems can effectively reduce microbial growth and protect against mold and mildew, which can often trigger allergies. Your local contractor can guide you on a UVGI light system that’s compatible with your HVAC system.
